Ouder-Amstel – In the radio program “Start Me Up”, Barbara and Julia spoke with Dolly Pietersen about the celebration of International Women’s Day in Amstelveen. A wide-ranging program with activities, workshops, and performances dedicated to women and connection is planned across several locations in the city.

This year, a deliberate choice was made to organize the event at three different locations instead of one central venue. According to Dolly, this helps strengthen the various initiatives in the city. Activities will take place at Ontmoeting Lokaal, Stadsdorp Elsrijk, and Wijkcentrum Pluspunt. Each location has its own program and theme, allowing visitors to choose from a wide variety of activities.

WORKSHOPS, PERFORMANCES, AND INFORMATION MARKET

At Ontmoeting Lokaal, the program starts in the morning and continues into the afternoon. Visitors can enjoy live performances, including traditional Chinese dance and belly dance. There will also be workshops such as women’s self-defense, bead making, origami, and ikebana.

In addition, there will be a small market where female artists and entrepreneurs present their work, ranging from ceramics and skincare products to artisanal chocolates.

At Wijkcentrum Pluspunt, the focus is more on learning and personal development. Visitors can attend a lecture about women in the exact sciences and a presentation on the position of women in Nepal. There will also be an information market where organizations and initiatives introduce themselves.

Stadsdorp Elsrijk mainly focuses on relaxation and awareness. Visitors can participate in activities such as chair yoga, painting, singing activities, and relaxing treatments such as hand massages.

A DAY FOR AND BY WOMEN

According to Dolly, the day is mainly about connection and celebrating womanhood. The activities are meant to bring women together, inspire one another, and highlight how diverse and powerful women are.

Although women around the world still face many challenges, this day emphasizes positivity and celebrating talent, creativity, and strength together. Visitors can also easily move between the different locations thanks to flyers with the full program.

The official opening at Ontmoeting Lokaal will be performed by Alderwoman Floor Gordon.
